4 Elite club 100 members (Charles Keey, Dave Morrison, Alistair Davies and Neil Schaffer) participated in the 15th Tru-Cape MTB race held in Grabouw over the past weekend. With a short break in the recent terrible weather it was good to get out.
The race is held over an extremely tough 50 km route with sections that were included in the 2010 Absa Cape Epic. A 'le mans' style start took place with riders having to run to their bikes before hitting the trails. From the gun the pace was frantic with a small group of 5 forming quickly. Nico Pfitzenmaier, Adriaan Louw ( GT Mr Price), Charles Keey (Blend Properties), Dave Morrison (Blend Properties) and Greg Knox (UCT) made the split. The five stayed together until a tricky single track decent where Nico and Adriaan used the technical skills and formed a gap over the other 3.
With 25 Km left the route headed up into the mountains and every body was now riding solo. Unfortunately Nico broke his chain in the last couple of KM, allowing Adriaan to take the win. 2nd place went to Dave Morrison and 3rd to Charles Keey. Alastair manged a top 10 as well.
