Charles Keey takes 2nd at the Burger MTB

Race report from Charles Keey:

"This past weekend was die Burger MTB Ultra Marathon held in Stellenbosch. Being one of the biggest regional races on the calendar ensured that the competition would be hot, with 3200 cyclist lining up for the various 4 distances. The ultra route followed a course of 75 km through 11 different farms including 2000m of climbing and kilometres of quality technical single track, making it a real mountain bike race.

The pace was hot from the start with David George (Sa Find It) applying the pressure on the early climbs through Coetzenburg. Charles Keey and Jacques Rossouw (Cannondale) formed a pair chasing David a couple of second’s back, with a small group containing Stuart Marais, Dave Morison, Renay Goustra (GT –Mr Price), Christian Kriek (Maties) and Adriaan Louw (GT – Mr Price), just behind. Jacques soon faded leaving just Charles chasing David, keeping him in sight and within a minute gap until 10 km to go. In this time, Stuart had taken a bad fall and damaged his bike while Dave had just fallen outside the top 5. Towards the end David George managed to gain some time on Charles, winning in a time of 3:22:21 with Charles 1:40 down at the line. Jacques Rossouw rounded off the podium a further 6 and a half minutes down taking the sprint from Renay Goustra.

David George 3:22:21
Charles Keey 3:24:01
Jacques Rossouw 3:30:28"
