DIRTOPIA MTB FESTIVAL SEES A CHANGE OF SCENERY IN 2011

Dirtopia MTB Festival takes place closer to Cape Town in this its 11th year! Delvera Farm near Stellenbosch will play host to this action-packed event from Friday, 29 April to Monday, 02 May. The venue is also home to Dirtopia Trail Centre and the Festival will have a different but a unique feel, giving all abilities & all ages something to do.
Activities will include skills clinics, freeride challenge, funrides, downhill, dirt jumping, a spectacular night ride, dual racing and even a trail run.
Children can look forward to loads of fun with kid’s bikes available for hire, a Spur kids corner, kiddies BMX Track, hiking & biking trails and loads more on Delvera Farm for the kids.

Some of the highlights:
Skills Clinic: Join Hannele Steyn Kotze for a day of fun and learning all the tricks to be a confident mountain biker. Male & Female riders from beginner level and for those who are confident on their bikes but want to know more about nutrition and how to train correctly, come and get the edge! The clinic takes place on Friday 29 April at 09h00 at the Trail Centre and is for pre-bookings only.
Don’t miss the Friday night social at Simonsberg Café after the Nightride with R45 meals, wine & MTB movies.
On Saturday, 30 April it is time for the first gravity events with Dual racing, BMX & MTB dirtjumping and the highlight of the Red Bull Freeride at 15h00 – all taking place on the Terrain Park overlooking the dam. Spectators will love all the action including the Observed Trials – trick on bikes! The downhill race will take place Sunday afternoon on Klapmutskoppie – expect some fast racing.

Cross Country riders can take part in the 30km Marathon (a qualifying event for World Marathon Champs) on Sunday, 1 May at 09h00. Do one, two or three laps and enjoy the spectacular riding in the Simonsberg Conservancy area.

Funriders: Take advantage of riding the marked trails between 09H00 – 13H00 on Saturday 30 April on Delvera Farm, with the added bonus of being timed and having a waterpoint at the Pepper Tree. Use a Trail Tag to get a time per lap. No riding without a number board.
On Friday, Sunday and Monday, 29 April, 1 & 2 May come and ride the marked trails on Delheim and Simonsig between 09h00 and 12h00. Please note these trails are not normally open to the general public!

Runners will have a chance to explore the dirt trails on Monday 2 May at 10h00 at a cost of R50 per person. All ages and abilities welcome! A 7.25km loop and a 14.5km route for those wanting a good work-out. Picturesque views to be seen on the Farm.

Don’t miss this action-packed extravaganza that promises to be endless fun for the entire family! You can ride a trail or do multiple events. This long weekend is also the end of a holiday for most, so take the opportunity to visit some of the wineries in the area.
