The 2010 edition of the Coronation Double Century was full of records last weekend. Daikin Gu took the Open Men win in a record time of 5:11:20, Cycle Lab Mixed in a record time of 5:54:56 and our very own Club 100 Diamonds sparkled, setting a new woman's record of 6:32:42.

Our team consisted of Mary Haw (captain), Nicola Payne, Tamlyn Benedict, Kasha Dickie, Tania Carstens, Maroesjka Matthee, Lisa Baumann, Anja Knaus, An-Li Pretorious, Lylanie Lawrence and Denni Cartwright. With Susan Melmed and Mr & Mrs Matthee our ever supportive and hard working back up!

The team worked very well together to keep our momentum, and hold together as long as possible. We had our first mechanical at about 90km, and Lisa had to swap out a wheel. But this lost us to little time. Kasha and Lisa eventually dropped off at 140km, having helped the team to maintain a high average. We fought through the slight cross wind, and then lost Denni to a tire blow out at 160km. Pushing on with 8 ladies for the last 40km, we knew we had at least a 7 minute lead on the next ladies team. Anja dropped near the turn onto the Swellendam road, and we were down to 7. We never gave up and pushed on, to cross the line in 6:32:42. Needless to say we were and still are over the moon that all the hard work had paid off.
